Meet Sharece Crawford
Sharece Crawford is a third generation Native Washingtonian and lifelong public servant. Born and raised in the Congress Park and Congress Heights Community where her mother served as a home health aid and her father a disability care provider. As the current elected At Large Committeewoman and twice elected Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner (ANC) Sharece understands the importance of ACCOUNTABILITY and ACCESSIBILITY. Investing in Sharece as the next At Large CouncilMember means ensuring all District residents have proper access to economic, health, education and housing ownership opportunities.
Growing up in the inner city of Washington, DC Sharece overcame many obstacles from economic challenges; to housing insecurities, to gun violence; food insecurities; health disparities; the war on drugs and mass incarceration. As a young person Sharece and her siblings attended the Anacostia Full Gospel Baptist Church Sunday School and their youth sponsored initiative: “Camp Dynamite.” After completing the Sasha Bruce Youth Works Rites Of Passage Program in 2002 Sharece was determined to become a part of the solution.
Sharece attended both DC Public Charter Schools and DC Public Schools before graduating from Ballou Senior High School. Sharece earned her Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude, in Communications, Journalism and Mass Media from the first Historically Black College & University in the south — Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. It was here that she developed her core values, and ethics for life.
As the elected At Large Committeewoman for the DC Democratic State Committee Sharece supported living wages, environmental justice policies, increasing access to economic opportunities, information and resources. She was able to obtain a unanimous vote in support for human rights policies and restorative justice. Sharece believes in using her platform to create succession plans, reducing the voting age to 16, health insurance equity, expanding disability support, public safety as a public health crises and ending taxation without representation.
As the Former Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner for ANC 8E04 and 8C03 Sharece created the resolution roundtable which gave district residents a seat at the table to network and negotiate deals while allowing their voices to be heard on various issues.
